A Masterpiece
The Lord is after your heart.

“You should do better.” “You should be better.”
This voice in my head demands more than I can give and, actually, more than God has asked.
Opening the Bible app, the over-familiar verse suddenly jumped with life.
Me? A masterpiece?
Years ago, my mom learned a way to slow down with a Scripture verse.
Say the verse slowly and take a deep breath in between each word. This is a powerful tool, especially for certain verses such as this one.
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”
Ephesians 2:10 (NLT)
Try it slowly, the way my mom taught me. One word, one breath, one pause at a time.
“I am God’s Masterpiece.”
I — Me. Completely me. With all my strengths and weaknesses. The complexity of who I am. The thoughts of my mind, the desires of my heart, the emotions of my soul, and the ability of my body. The beauty and the messes, both simultaneously.
am — Presently. Now. (Really? Are you sure, God?) Yes! Confidently. Securely. Entirely. Without question.
God’s — All-knowing, yet all-loving. All-powerful and all-wise. Author and Creator. Refiner and Healer. My refuge, my strength, my help. Teacher and Counselor. Savior and Friend. With all of His kindness and mercy, and all of His plans for my good, bringing me out of darkness into His marvelous light. (1 Peter 2:9)
Masterpiece — Unique. One of a kind. Skillfully made and crafted, designed with intention and purpose. Priceless. Wonderful.
Wow! That’s incredible! When we slow down to sit in the words of God’s promise, the words come alive in our hearts — even when it’s hard to believe.
The verse continues and reveals the response: we serve the Lord in all we do. We are completely loved and created on purpose and compelled to do the things that God brings into our lives.
May the Lord help you understand the Truth that you are God’s Masterpiece!
